Seriously???

Okay so I might be one of the most inconsistent bloggers out there. I've been crazy busy with my educational pursuit of nursing. Spring semester of schooling is going well, but wish it was summer. Although I have been able to eek out a few projects here and there.

Main project that might take some time is redoing my laundry room/sewing room. I keep looking through the as is at Ikea and finding cupboards that work for a fraction of the cost. I'm also a new fan of www.ikeahackers.com A fun website solely dedicated to people redesigning ikea products for use that better suit their needs.

A quilt for a friend

A few weeks ago now I finished a quilt for a dear friend of one of my sisters and mine. I was so anxious to see the gift received, so my sister sent pictures (the very end ones). The reveal face is what makes quilting all worth while for me. The hours of cutting, sewing, ironing, pinning, trimming... all you quilters know what I'm talking about. So here is the reveal, "Home is Where the Heart is". In the mean time here are some pinning pics.

All taped, and stretched and ready for pinning.
Getting all stretched and ready for pinning, thank goodness for hardwood floors.

Truly, a scrappy quilt, I was so good and didn't buy one piece of new material for this project.

I just sewed and played with the material, and placed where they best fit.

It was so great to not have a pattern to be constrained to.

the makings of the house

the door, the window, the chimney, and the heart all 505 sprayed on.

All ready for basic straight line quilting

Maria delighted with her quilt

I'm so glad that I took this project on. My sister said when the gift was opened there were immediate tears of joy and appreciation for the quilt.

Maria inspecting the quilt in great detail.

It's Hairspray!!! These past few weeks have been filled with Hairspray rehearsals for our local theatre. This past weekend was opening night, and my how fabulous and fun it was. Now its a little bit of down time as we actors have this week off and back at it for the final three shows next weekend.

A New year, and now a new month!

Yikes! Oops, I sure let time get away on me. I have sure been busy with ufo's and schoolwork, family life, play rehearsals, and striving to meet goals. Main projects that I have on the go are messenger bags made out of wool sweaters. I found a fabulous pattern online through another blogger. ocd: obsessive crafting disorder: Bag Lady Week- Messenger Bag Tutorial

I have modified the pattern many ways, to make a much smaller child's bag, and I turned the bag so it was wider than it was tall. Making the lining out of quilt blocks that never quite fit into a quilt has been a good way to use up scraps.

I also have been working on a totally scrappy quilt for an elderly friend of mine. She has dementia and I have made the quilt a little like an eye spy to keep her mind sharp and active while she visits with friends and stays cozy.

Also I'm on the hunt for a good iron. The normal everyday ones only seem to last about a year when you use them heavily like I do when I've got projects on the go. Any suggestions?
